The Transperth First Generation A-series trains were the first electric trains to run on the Transperth system in Perth, Western Australia.
The trains run as 2 car EMU sets of one AEA car and one AEB car, both with drivers' compartments. During peak times a four car set may be made by joining two 2-car sets together.
[edit] History
The first generation A-series trains started service when the Perth rail system was electrified in September 1991. Second generation A-series and then B-series railcars have since become operational.
[edit] Seating Layout
The majority of A-series trains feature 2 inwards facing rows of bench seats either side of the car forward of the front set of doors and to the back of the rear set of doors. In between the doors 2 seat rows run down each side of the car (as can be seen in the above picture).
Some sets (01-19) have been reconfigured with 2 inwards facing bench rows running the entire length of the car. This reduces the amount of seats available but increases standing room capacity.
Each car also has 1-2 wheelchair spaces available.
[edit] Timetable and Storage
The first generation A-series serves every line in conjunction with second generation sets, and with B-series trains on the Joondalup Line.
