The Transit Authority of River City (TARC) is the major public transportation provider for the Louisville Metro area, as well as the Kentucky suburbs of Oldham County, Bullitt County, and Clark County and Floyd County in southern Indiana. The system began operation in 1974.

TARC operates a series of city buses that serve throughout the Louisville area. They also operate a system of diesel powered rubber tired trolleys that act as circulators in the downtown hotel and shopping districts and on certain days are used to provide special shuttle services in other shopping and entertainment areas.

TARC owns Union Station.
