Trance.nu is a brand name and URL for the popular website related to electronic dance music; mostly Trance. The site offers news, articles, reviews, podcasts, artist diaries, an online community, competitions and more.

It is a non-profit website, with the main focus on spreading the music and helping the Electronic dance music industry with legal means. The owners and contributors claim to earn no money with it.

[edit] History

Trance.nu had begun as a hobby project without big ideas and from the beginning trance.nu hadn't that many features. Tommie from Sweden had registered the domain and set up a free web based e-mail system and free redirection subdomains. In August 2000 the swede Ralf Elfving, also known as Macman, surfed onto the site and got in contact with Tommie. They both had ideas and visions, and they thought that together they may be able to spawn some of them. Just a few weeks after that, trance.nu took it's second step and got a face uplift. At this stage Tommie also took in his friend, Jezper Söderlund, on the project. As trance.nu now brought its few visitors both news, reviews and a link-archive, the site grew. The three owners mailed labels and artists looking for interviews and co-operation. Two of the first people to show their interest were Armin van Buuren and Misja Helsloot. Trance.nu interviewed them and had a good relationship with them both.

Tommie, Jesper and Ralf needed help to keep the site up to date with reviews and news, and granted Rob Nestepaad, also known as Ferrari, a place in their staff. Rob showed to be a great contributor as he knew all the guys at Black Hole. He did high quality reviews of unreleased albums, got exclusive first hand news, and also set up an interview with Tijs Verwest, DJ Tiësto, which was considered a breakthrough for trance.nu at the moment. The site grew in popularity and more people joined up the staff to keep the site updated with quality content. The creators set up a trance.nu meeting in Stockholm for Ralf, Tommie and Jesper. This was the first time Ralf met them both. They discussed future plans and features for the site. This meant many months of hard coding for Tommie, who saw it as a challenge.

During this time trance.nu got its second forum up and running. Here visitors were allowed to discuss everything, with restrictions that forbade illegal spread of music and drugs. In just a few weeks a few hundred member had signed up. As the new version, v3, was on its way to be finished, Trance.nu got into co-operation with Black Hole Recordings, which gave first hand news and competitions. Furthermore, there was a co-operation started with Overdose Productions, which sent lead to first hand news for publication on the site as well.

In the end of summer 2001 the Trance.nu crew finished a new on-line trance community, where members could interact in a better way. With their own integrated web pages they could tell more about themselves. With own pictures, guestbooks, friendlists and more a trance community with thousands of members had been successfully launched. With this release the site got a face-lift in many ways, and new features were added to give the visitors more pleasure.

Version 4 of the website is due to launch in early 2007.
