Tracy Turnblad is the movie character played by Ricki Lake in the original Hairspray film. She was also played by Marissa Jaret Winokur (and later, by Kathy Brier, Carly Jibson, and Shannon Durig) in the Broadway version of the original John Waters film (see Hairspray (musical)). In the Canadian production of the musical, this role was played by American Idol finalist Vanessa Olivarez. In 2007, Nikki Blonsky will portray her in the big-screen adaptation of the Broadway version of Hairspray (see Hairspray (2007 film).

Tracy is a "pleasantly plump" resident of Baltimore, Maryland, who wishes to become a dancer on The Corny Collins Show. Tracy also wants to integrate the show while winning the love of the hunky Link Larkin.
