Talk:Traction TeamPage
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There is a notice suggesting that the Traction TeamPage page is a candidate for speedy deletion on this page which I created last night. My justification for creating this page is that all the early to market blog software companies and products have pages.
These include Radio Userland, SixApart MovableType and TypePad, SocialText and JotSpot. If commercial products (or open source products for that matter) do not have a place in wikipedia, then it logically follows that at least all the commercial products I list here should also be deleted.
If the text of my entry sounds too much like advertising, then I suggest someone edit it to make it more in line with your expectations. That said, I was very careful to act within the norms set by other commercial weblog software product pages.
If historical significance is the litmus test, this Traction TeamPage page also stands as a relevant entry, as relevant as the Userland and MovableType pages and more so than the SocialText and JotSpot pages (and way more relevant than the smattering of open source blog and wiki software pages that represent branches of existing wiki/blog software or are simple knockoffs with similar functionality):
- Traction Software was founded in 1996 long before any of these other companies. - The product was built as a true hypertext journal (modeled after Doug Engelbart's 1968 NLS) and is the only product in the market to have a journaled audit trail with as much depth. - Traction the product was released earlier (1999) than all of them, with commercial launch under the name Traction TeamPage in July 2002. - In terms of product relevance, Traction TeamPage was the first blog software product to provide a single system with multiple integrated blog/wiki workspaces, provide bi-directional link referencing (long before Trackback was conceived of), cross-blog tagging (with labels), cross-blog commenting, paragraph level discussion threading, full edit history on pages as well as comments, WebDAV enabled document management, and LDAP & Active Directory (with NTLM) integration. - Traction Software (the company) was first to be venture funded, in 2000 by In-Q-Tel which is the venture arm of the Central Intelligence Agency. - Traction TeamPage was the first product to be called an Enterprise Weblog (by an Jon Udell, an InfoWorld analyst, in 2002 --> http://www.infoworld.com/article/02/07/12/020715aptraction_1.html).
[edit] Traction TeamPage references
See references to TeamPage's May 2003 Release 1.0 Social Software review (by Clay Shirky), and May 2006 review in depth as one of nine blogging platforms covered in Forrester Research's Blogging Wave report. I believe these and the other references added clearly meet the criteria "The company or corporation has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent of the company or corporation itself." established in WP:CORP as the critera for a notable product or company. Traction Software is an influential early mover in developing and selling social software for business uses including: competitive intelligence, product / project management and others.
[edit] Additional references, removed PROD tag and template
After adding and reviewing additional references from well respected independent business analysts and customers, I removed the PROD template and Tags following the Wikipedia:Proposed_deletion procedure as I understand it. I read the references and welcome corrections if I've misunderstood the process. I believe that the article has been substantially improved by providing independent references that meet WP:CORP criteria.
