- 1859 – George Knorr (pictured), inventor of the Knorr brake, is born (d. 1911).
- 1884 – The Hagener Straßenbahn-Gesellschaft in Hagen, Germany, opens its first 2 km (1.2 mile) long horse-car line.
- 1993 – The Berlin U-Bahn reopens direct connections across the line that was formed by the Berlin Wall, reuniting the city's rapid transit system.
