- 1904 – Buck Crump, president of Canadian Pacific Railway Limited 1955-1964 and 1966, is born (d. 1989).
- 1968 – The Chicago and North Western Railway acquires the Des Moines and Central Iowa Railway and the Fort Dodge, Des Moines and Southern Railway.
- 2002 – The Iowa, Chicago and Eastern Railroad takes over operations from the defunct I&M Rail Link in the north central United States.
- 2003 – Eurostar train number 3313/14 establishes a new speed record in England at 334.7 km/h (208 mph) on the new Channel Tunnel Rail Link.
