• 1830 – Ground is broken in Charleston, South Carolina, for the first railroad to use steam locomotives in South Carolina, the South Carolina Canal and Rail Road.
• 1882 – The first train from Cincinnati, Ohio, on the Cincinnati Northern Railway (pictured), departs for Dayton, Ohio.
