- 1835 – Henry Villard, president of Northern Pacific Railroad, is born (d. 1900).
- 1921 – Henry Kirke Porter, American steam locomotive builder, dies (b. 1840)
- 1923 – Stuyvesant Fish, president of the Illinois Central Railroad 1887-1907, dies (b. 1851).
- 1937 – The last train operates on Colorado and Southern Railway's line to Leadville, Colorado, which was originally built and operated by the Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad.
