Dragon Ball GT: Transformation is a video game developed by Webfoot Games, taking place in during the "Black Star Dragonball" and "Bebi" story arcs of the anime Dragon Ball GT. As its page on Atari's official website was labeled as "LOG4", it is assumed by many that although the genre has changed, Transformation is essentially a continuation of the Legacy of Goku series. Transformation was also rereleased in 2006 as part of a Game Boy Advance two-pack, with Dragon Ball Z: Buu's Fury on the same cartridge. A sequel to the game called Dragon Ball GT: Transformation 2 was under development for a 2006 release, but has since been cancelled.

[edit] Gameplay

The gameplay is based on the standard classic "Beat-'em-up" sub-genre of fighting games, similar to games such as Sega's Streets of Rage series, or Konami's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games, for example.

Transformation boasts a rather robust playable character cast for a Game Boy Advance side-scroller. Below is a complete list of which characters are playable throughout the game:

Listed on the Atari website prior to the game's release, was Super Saiyan Trunks, although that character is not selectable. The site also mentioned that two villains were playable, but alas, Bebi Vegeta is the only one.

[edit] Game Modes

Dragon Ball GT: Transformation sports multiple modes of play, most of which must be unlocked prior to taking part in them.

This is the standard portion of the game. The first level is Imekka, the first planet that Son Goku, Trunks, and Pan visit during their quest to find the elusive Black Star Dragon Balls. Throughout the course of the game, players collect the rest of the Dragon Balls, and return to Earth, which has been completely taken over by the Tsufurujin parasite known as "Bebi". The final stage takes place on Plant, the Tsufurujin home world, which was wished back to existence on the Black Star Dragon Balls by Bebi Vegeta. In the final boss battle, Super Saiyan 4 Goku faces off against a Ogon (Golden) Oozaru Bebi Vegeta.

[edit] Standard Mode

Similar to Story Mode, only with the between-stage discussion scenes removed. However, the benefit of this mode, is that the player is able to play as any of the characters that they have unlocked with "Zenny" (Dragon Ball's currency units). The characters available in this mode are all of those listed above, excluding Goku with tail and Golden Oozaru Goku.

[edit] Endurance Mode

Available as a Single Player or Multiplayer Mode, Endurance pits the player(s) against wave after wave of increasingly tougher enemies. The goal is to stay alive as long as possible.

[edit] Boss Endurance Mode

Similar to the Endurance Mode, this mode (also available as Single Player and Multiplayer), the player(s) fight against each of the game's bosses in succession.

[edit] Robot Swarm Mode

Also similar to the previous Endurance Modes, this Single Player or Multi-player game mode has the player choose a time limit of their choice, and try to defeat as many Machine Mutants as they can within the chosen limit. According to an interview, players have tried to beat this level but in playing 2 hours straight robots were still coming.

[edit] Piccolo Mode

A Multiplayer Versus Mode where players play as Piccolo and his Bunshin body doubles.
