Toyogoro

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Toyogoro was a swordsman serving under the swordmaster Kamiizumi Hidetsuna during the Sengoku Period of the 16th century of Japan. Toyogoro was reputed as the greatest student under the instruction of Hidetsuna (at least at that time). At one time the famous swordsman Yagyū Muneyoshi wished for a duel with Hidetsuna himself. However, Hidetsuna assigned for Toyogoro to duel Muneyoshi in his stead. Since it was said that Muneyoshi was rather quite good looking, he was rather annoyed by the skinny and scruffy appearance that Toyogoro gave off. In the end however Toyogoro managed to defeat Muneyoshi three times in a row. It is also said that Toyogoro was a master of the "no sword" style of bujutsu, in which was a good reason to why he had easily defeated Mitsuyoshi.
