Township (China)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
When referring to Political Divisions of China, township is the standard English translation of the Chinese 乡 (xiāng).
In China's dual governance system, the township's governance is divided between the Communist Party Township Secretary, and the Mayor (乡长). A township official is the lowest-level ranked official in the CPC government hierarchy. The township has very few defined government responsibilities, except for the Birth Planning Commission (计划生育委员会).
