"Tourniquet" is a song performed by the alternative rock band Evanescence. The song was track 6 on their debut album Fallen.
"Tourniquet" was originally written and performed by Soul Embraced, a Christian death metal band. When Soul Embraced drummer Rocky Gray joined Evanescence, Evanescence did their own adaptation of the song. Evanescence's adaptation has a second verse added. Soul Embraced's version is called "My Tourniquet", but was changed to "Tourniquet" for the three demo versions and Fallen version for Evanescence.
In the demo versions, a clip from Baz Luhrmann's movie William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet is played during the bridge and the line "I long to die!" is heard clearly. In the Fallen version, Evanescence lead singer Amy Lee screams that same line, as she confirmed in a 2004 interview.
The song is most commonly interpreted as one in which a girl is committing suicide, and praying that she will not go to Hell. This song is used as evidence by those arguing that Evanescence is a Christian band.
