Tour de franzia

The Tour de Franzia, sometimes referred to as le Tour de Franzia, is a drinking game involving teams consuming an entire 5 liter box of wine as fast as possible in the spirit of the Tour de France. The Tour de Franzia is not as well known as many of the more popular beer and liqour based drinking games because wine in not as common on college campuses, however the Tour de Franzia has a history in the North Eastern American universities.

One 5L box of wine per team. More fun can be had if each team has a different color wine.
An appropriate number of cups (optional).

1. Assemble teams consisting of 3 members.
2. Choose team colors (wine varietal).
3. Open the boxes and begin racing.
4. First to finish wins.

The game normally proceeds with one team member as a sprinter and the rest of the team in the peloton. House rules can involve climbing stages (line of shots of wine) and time trials (chugging) to break up the race into events. Variations can also include making a circuit whereby the competitors have to negotiate a predetermined course with wine at checkpoints. This can be indoors or outdoors.
