Tough Plastic Sheath
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tough Plastic Sheath (TPS) cable normally consists of a white or off white outer sheath of plastic, one or more inner coloured plastic sheaths, and a core or cores of plain annealed copper, either single or multi strand. These strands of copper are much thicker than the strands in appliance cable, and are not very resistant to fracturing if bent repetitively.
The type of plastic, sizing of the conductor(s) etc. are covered by different regulatory bodies around the world.
Flat TPS is the most common and is used for the fixed wiring of domestic and industrial lighting, power outlets, and heating. Round TPS is less common and is usually used where glands are required.
As an aside, it is more difficult to strip the insulation from round TPS than flat.
