You say you are the source of the material copied by Galassi. If so the best way to establoish your authorship, and to allow us to use it, would be to mark the original text as GFDL, a license similar to public domain. -Will Beback 19:10, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

How exactly should this be marked? Also I have known "Galassi" personally since 1977, and he is not Primetime-vandal Torban

Galassi shares Primetime's inclination to copy material without proper attribution, and to claim the work of others as his own. Are you the webmaster of http://polyhymnion.org/torban? -Will Beback 19:33, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

I don't believe this was done maliciously. I am the webmaster of several sections of Polyhymnion which generally strictly enforces only primary copyright (as in original literature, music and art).Torban 19:53, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

If you are the author of the materials then you can release them for use by others. The best way of showing that you are the owner is to mark the material as released under GFDL by adding a phrase like you see at the bootom of every Wikipedia article, "All text is available under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License." -Will Beback 20:34, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Temporarily blocked for copyright violations

Hi. I have taken the step of blocking you temporarily (but indefinitely), for the (re)addition of a large amount of copyrighted material. Since you indicate that you are the author of the material that was used without permission, I'm sure that you appreciate the importance of Wikipedia establishing its provenance. I'll be happy to unblock you just as soon as you demonstrate that the material in question conforms, in all ways, to Wikipedia's policies on the use of copyrighted material. In the meantime, I have reverted all of your edits, and will (along with many others) be watching the affected articles to ensure that material of questinable provenance is not reinserted by other users. Kind regards, Nandesuka 20:33, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

Fair enough. In the meantime there is no reason why you shouldn't release the Barto , Turovsky and Lute articles. They make no use of questionable material at all. As we mentioned in a message to Will the "hot" items are composers Seixas, Krebs, Bellman, Zelenka and CPEBach. Tuma and Weiss are problematic to a lesser degree. The Ukrainian Music article is largely Polyhymnion's, except the 19th and 20th century sections which obviously haven't been sufficiently rewritten to qualify for Wiki. Great. The picture you uploaded as Image:Barto1.jpg seems to be the same as the photo at polyhymnion.org (here, labeled bob5b-pr.jpg). You've indicated that you're a webmaster of some sections of polyhymnion. Did you take that photo, and own the copyright in it? Thanks! Nandesuka 21:15, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

YEs, I've shot both Bob and Roman with my own Canon Powershot and have put them in PubDomain. I am a webmaster (one of 3 actually) of all the musical sections of Polyhymnion. Another question: We are rewriting Weiss and Music of Ukraine. How are we supposed to reinsert them? Torban 21:25, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

My high level comment would be: under no circumstances is it appropriate to copy large swaths of polyhymnion (or any other site) for Wikipedia, even if you own the content and it's not technically plagiarism. Content written for Wikipedia should be written specifically for Wikipedia. Regarding that photo, I think if a GFDL license notice is put on the page at polyhymnion with those photos, that would clear this up nicely. Nandesuka 22:43, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

I'll do that later tonight. As to swaths, I think _donating_ them should be acceptable. Do you think you'd be willing to provisionally remove the ban on our selfrecognizance? Also, would you prefer to communicate directly via lute88ATgmailDOT.com? "galassi" has some difficulties accessing web content right now. Torban 23:01, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

Are you the same editor as user:lute88? -Will Beback 23:07, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

No. We are related however.Torban 00:58, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Have you had a chance to make the edits to the Polyhymnion website to reflect the GFDL license of the images and text? That would realy help straighten out things. -Will Beback 05:36, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Am workin on it now. BTW, just noticed some unauthorized Polyhymnion material elsewhere on Wiki, BUT we are not opposed to it being there.Torban 12:16, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Done: Barto bio page and Torban index. That takes care of the portaits of Barto and Turovsky.Torban 12:45, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. I have unblocked you. I do urge you to be careful when editing in the future, and generally recommend against cut-and-pasting text from other sites, even if it's "free" text. From an editorial standpoint, Wikipedia's role as a general-purpose encyclopedia requires a different sort of writing than you might find at a special-purpose site like polyhymnion. Regards, Nandesuka 13:33, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. Is there a way to undelete some images? We lost a goodly number in an HD crash some months ago...Torban 18:20, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
