Toronto and Region Conservation Authority

Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) or Office de protection de la nature de Toronto et de la région is one of 36 conservation authorities in Ontario, Canada consisting of 377 hectares (33,055 acres) of land. It is responsible for conservation areas in and around Toronto. Conservation areas are special parks that protect resources (such as wetlands and floodplains), protect wildlife habitat, provide for recreation, provide educational opportunities, and enable water management projects. Most parks and conservation areas are located in Toronto, as well as York, Durham and Peel Regions.
It was called Metro Toronto and Region Conservation Authority before 1997.
TRCA is not responsible for city parks, which are under the Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation Division.
