Toronto Tecumsehs
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Toronto Tecumsehs (officially the Tecumseh Hockey Club) were a team in the National Hockey Association in 1912-13. The team played its games in the Mutual Street Arena.
An offshoot of a local lacrosse team by the same name, the team, managed by Charlie Querrie, played some exhibition games in 1911-12 before the NHA granted them a franchise. The team's goalie, Billy Nicholson, was appointed manager of the NHA Tecumsehs, who posted a record of 7 wins and 13 losses for a .350 winning percentage.
At the end of their only season, owner W. J. Bellingham sold the bankrupt club to Tom Wall, who renamed the team the Toronto Ontarios.
Notable Tecumsehs players include George McNamara, an Honoured Member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, and his brother, Howard.
