[edit] UN SG

According to the BBC, he has been nominated by the SC, but not yet confirmed (although it is all but a done deal). [1] Badgerpatrol 16:59, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

As of this moment, I haven't spotted the update on the CNN or BBC but I did on French Le Monde and on 3 Slovenian news agencies, so I suppose it's fine. The French link should be replaced when the English language news are updated, of course. Regards, --Tone 17:01, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
No- I mean to say that he has not been confirmed as SG yet. The wording is wrong -see the BBC link above. Badgerpatrol 17:13, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
Ok, only security council confirmed him, not the assembly. Thanks for noticing, I removed the link until full confirmation. --Tone 17:17, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Thank you! linusthefish 17:15, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] TTDPatch Deletion

Im afraid I must protest the deletion of the TTDPatch article. TTDPatch is quite a notable piece of software, as it has been the only "modification" to Transport Tycoon since 1994. Google Results. Born Acorn 18:53, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

I support Born Acorn on this. TTDPatch is fairly notable within its own field, and the speedy deletion of the article was unwarranted. At the very least, it should have been put up for VfD. orudge 19:05, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
There's a large and active community for TTD Patch, and it's certainly a noteable piece of software. Several other wikipedia pages linked to the TTD Patch article (at least the page on TTD itself, as well as OpenTTD). The article was not a blatant advertisement by any definition, and as such, I feel that a mistake has been made. --SpComb 19:12, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
Why was this page deleted? Following the same principle all other open-source projects can be deleted under 'advertisement'. This was a very, very bad and too quick a decision without any overhtought. Please put the page back, TTDPatch is an icon to anyone that has played Transport Tycoon and is NOT an advert. Darkvater 21:07, October 12 2006 (UTC)
Ok guys, I will restore it. Just make sure it doesn't read as an advertisment. --Tone 20:11, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Creede Williams deletion?

Greetings Tone, I've been linking to this Creede Williams article and recently noticed that the link was blank. Mr. Williams is a notable musician recently completing the JEEP COMPASS TOUR featuring the top 8 emerging singer songwriters in America. This show is scheduled to broadcast internationally on CBS in the form of the reality show "Touring Troubador". The Creede Williams band is currently signed to a major label, perform internationally, prized at teh SxSw Music Festival and include a band line-up that features several Grammy award winning artists. Although, I didn't craft the article it didn't appear to violate any copyright laws, include unverifiable content or (in my opinion)suffer from grammatical issues sufficient to justify compulsory deletion. Perhaps you might reconsider this deletion in the interest. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by TxMusicGrrl (talkcontribs).

Article restored. --Tone 07:35, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

alright i created a page for my band and now its gone. what gives? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Calebstinson (talkcontribs).

I guess it was deleted. I can check, if you tell me the title? --Tone 19:13, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Blatant advertising

Tone,

I made a page and it was deleted: 13:53, 20 October 2006 Tone (Talk | contribs) deleted "Disabled Adults Social Activities Foundation (DASA)" (advert)

I re-read the "Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion" and realize that I must have made the entry too promotional. (exclusively promote a company, product, group or service and which would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic.)

I didn't save the text and layout of the page and was wondering if you could allow me to edit it, and then repost it. I'd hate to rewrite everything and I believe some simple changes could solve my misunderstanding. I am new to posting here and want to continue to learn and be a positive contributor here. If you allow me access to the page I will delete and edit anything that sounds too promotional. Any suggestions would be quite welcomed.

Thanks - Gordon —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nodrognorrab (talkcontribs).

Fixed. You can rewrite it now. --Tone 09:50, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

it was The Vendettas —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Calebstinson (talkcontribs).

Indeed, The vendettas. It was deleted because of WP:BAND guidelines. Sorry, but I think your band is not yet important enough to have its own article. But I can restore the content at your userpage, it won't bother anyone there. Regards. --Tone 19:59, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] quote from meta

A sysop will then delete it after checking that the page does not contain evidence of policy violations that may need to be kept. If there has been no disruptive behavior meriting the retention of that personal information, then the sysop can delete the page straight away in order to eliminate general public distribution of the history containing the information. If the deletion occurs immediately, others may request undeletion if they feel there was in fact a need to retain the page.

You just deleted a usertalk page of someone that caused disruption, and violations were marked in the talk history. Agathoclea 13:00, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Which one was it exactly? The only one that could be doubtful has quoted right to vanish that I respect. Or was it another one and I deleted it mistakenly? I will fix it if you tell me which one. Regards, --Tone 13:04, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
It was User:Cogito ergo sumo. As far as right to vanish is concerned the text mentions real names and also refers to the above text. The user also appeared again under a different username after "vanishing permanently" see Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/E Pluribus Anthony (althaugh that case was handled a little to strongly)) Agathoclea 13:18, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
Ok, I restored it all. But please, keep an eye on it. --Tone 15:30, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
I blanked the page down to a bare minimum. Agathoclea 17:44, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
I have and will continue to revert this. Frankly, nothing has (still) been proven regarding this 'case' -- essentially, some editor (also blocked beforehand) makes allegations regarding sockpuppetry (for which there is only "weak" 'circumstantial' evidence and which have not been proven after 10 days as required etc.), admins impose blocks, and then revoke the blocks when they are demonstrated to be erroneous ... yet the original allegations/notice remain.
This is untenable: regardless of accusations or the recency of my edits, I am entitled to exercise control over my user/talk page and to request a m:right to vanish. If I return for any reason to edit Wikipedia (which will not happen given the farce above), it will be for this. Cogito ergo sumo 18:14, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
Maybe that should go somewhere else, and you are aware that I have opposed the block of your other account[2] as strictly speaking there was no violation of WP:SOCK just a continuation of your reverting which got you blocked in the first place. I will make a note on AN/I and see what the other admins consensus is. Agathoclea 18:28, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
I am aware -- and 'my' position above stands. Cogito ergo sumo 18:36, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
I have made the comments at AN/I Agathoclea 19:39, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] November Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

[edit] Admin co-coaching

Hey Tone,

You mentioned a preference for co-coaching, well unsure if you have paired up but I begin coaching Riana dzasta later this week - be happy for you to join us if you're keen? Thanks mate Glen 10:25, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My current chances at RfA

Hello, back in May you gave Moral support for my RfA. Thanks, I needed it. I failed that RfA due to the general consensus that I lacked experience. In hindsight I agree with that consensus.

I believe I have remedied my lack of experience since then. I have over 5000 edits over a wide range of name spaces, and have participated a lot more in the administrative end of Wikipedia. I am planning on requesting adminship again soon, either through nomination, or failing that self nomination.

The reason I am contacting you is to ask your opinion of my current chances at adminship. I know that it is not a good idea to run if you think you will fail, so I have asked a few people who's opinion I respect about this. Take your time, thanks alot for the consideration. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 18:52, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Co-coaching

I noticed you mentioned on the Esperanza Admin coaching page that you were interested in co-coaching. Well, I've been assigned two students from that program and have invited many more. I've set up a Virtual classroom to accomodate as many students and coaches as want to participate. Currently, we are comparing the user interfaces we make use of to navigate and work on Wikipedia. I've also been inviting some of the most prolific and talented editors of Wikipedia to drop in and share their experience with the rest of us. It's a blast. Come check it out. Even Interiot has stopped by to divulge some of his secrets! You are cordially invited.  The Transhumanist   16:31, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] AfDs

Wow, the AfD's are a real cyclone of opinion and strong feelings, it has given me great practice at considering the different views on a debate. I think I have avoided any terrible mistakes there. It is very easy for people to take my opinions on an article very personaly, especially if they are new to wikipedia as the authors of many AfD'd articles are. I can certainly see why potential admins need experience there. Good advice, thanks. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 20:11, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Nomination

Hello, I have taken your advice regarding participating in AfD discussions and I must say it has improved my wikiskills. I would like to take up your offer of nomination at this point, assuming you think I am ready. Please take your time, as I know you are a busy person. I appreciate your support, and especially your advice. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 16:43, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User Page Help

[edit] User Page

The links won't be able to moved into the yellow box--I tried it before to no avail. And could you expand on the problem with the userboxes? (UserTalk) 00:31, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Esperanza This userpage has been brought to you in conjunction with the Esperanza Trading Spaces program!

Yes, I mostly use Mozilla Firefox. I looked at my page and your page on my Internet Explorer, and I saw the problem. I tried editing mine without improvement. If you can, you should download Mozilla Firefox, because boxes (and a lot of other formatting styles) are best viewed on Mozilla Firefox. [edit] lycos cinema delete

can you give me a little more detail on the problem with the lycos cinema you page you deleted? I wanted to add some more information today and noticed it was gone with an A7 note. I listed a lycos press release as my source.. is that not acceptable? I've read all of the wikipedia edit howtos but maybe I need to read them again. Please be gentle.. I'm only trying to help. Thanks. Newsfoo talkpage

[edit] Quads FC

Hi, you deleted a entry on November 27th for Quads FC. Although Quads FC are a relatively small six a side team on the Wirral, they do have a small cult following in the local area and are well known around the Wirral. Myself, the management and supporters of Quads FC would really appreciate it if you could please restore this page.

Thanks.

[edit] Quads FC

Hi Tone, Thanks for restoring the Quads FC page. Any ideas on how it can be improved?

The best suggestion would be to have a look at some other articles about FC and try to make it in the same way. --Tone 16:26, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chip E. - deleted???

Greetings, please advise why the article for Chip E. was deleted.

Thanks67.175.137.2 09:01, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi. A great deal of content was copied from http://www.deephousepage.com/sub/chip_interview.php an therefore a copyright violation. You are welcome to rewrite it with other words and then it will be fine. --Tone 16:26, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

OK, then there's no problem. I'm the copyright holder for both. Please restore and advise how to properly format. You may confirm my identity and and ownership with Mr. G. Rose, administrator of DeepHousePage.com Thank you in advance for your assistance and concern.

64.191.230.157 17:38, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

In that case, no problem. Page is restored. For proper formatting, I advise you to check some similar articles and try to format it in the similar way. Any by the way, if you upload a photo, you should always correctly state the copyright info. Regards, --Tone 21:55, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Tone, again thanks for the concern and restoral. Please elaborate on concern with photo, as well as how to retrieve the previous image.67.175.137.2 04:33, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

I see that an image was posted in the article but is not there anymore. That means taht it was deleted and it can't be retrieved as an article. So you have to upload it again, state that you are the author or copyright holder and under what licence you publish it. PD, GFDL or CC are preferred. --Tone 10:10, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] You deleted my entry for Voteworld.net

Dear Tone,

You recently deleted my entry for my massive album voting website voteworld.net - "The nets biggest democratic album poll". The reason stated was "advert". However the site itself is merely a massive social contribution experiment where people can vote for the music they love. There is no payment involved or any service being sold - I am not running any sort of business. I don't think that it is fair that other social websites such as YouTube and MySpace are allowed entries on WikiPedia but VoteWorld isn't?

Many kindest regards

GreensterRox 22:10, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi. The problem with the article is that besides presenting the site, it also advetrizes it a lot and that is not what an encyclopedia is for. For example: Go on over and cast your vote., After a user has voted the fun continues! and so on. If you state it is the bggest album pool, you have to provide a reference to that. And besides, you should not sign your article, the contributor can be seen in the article's history. I suggest you rewrite the article from scratch and I hope you find my comments hopeful. Regards. --Tone 22:42, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Article on M. L. Andreasen - why deleted?

I noticed you deleted the stub on M. L. Andreasen. Why is this? Thanks, Tonicthebrown 14:58, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi. After reconsidering my decision, I see I was a bit fast. I will restore the article but please, expand it a little and provide some more references. At it present state, it provides very few information. Regards. --Tone 16:45, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Delete Image that wasn't Orphaned

You deleted Image:limhof.jpg without verifying that it *isn't* orphaned. It's used here: Long Island Music Hall of Fame. Please restore it, thanks. *Spark* 14:21, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Indeed, it wasn't orphaned. My mistake. Restored. --Tone 14:27, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Why did you delete the topic Battles of Norghan?

Please put it back up or send the text of it to me. I put a good amount of time in it and I hold all the copyrights to the text and I'd think it was obvious that whoever wrote it must have been from Mitorah Games. Please go to Mitorah Games contact page if you need to contact me about it.

Ok, restored. But please, reword it, because a great part of the article reads like an advertisment at the moment. And I moved it to a capitalized title, I guess it should be this way. --Tone 21:28, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Okay thanks and I edited it now. Please let me know before deleting if there's still something wrong with it that I don't see. Can I now remove the cleanup mark?

I saw it was deleted again and therefore I checked the log. I see the deletion of the article was justified with this discussion. There is not much I can do about it but you can complain at Wikipedia:Undeletion policy. --Tone 11:47, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] request for deleted article's code

[edit] MMSA Deletion

Hi. You recently deleted the article MMSA. This was deleted some time in March 2006, and since then has had considerable updates and modification to catalogue the MMSA's notability as an organisation. Please reconsider your deletion. Kilbosh 11:49, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Ok, restored. --Tone 12:25, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] MUGEN NoE help request

Dear Tone I will appreciate it if you can advice me how to modify the article of MUGEN NoE in order to fall into the scope of wikipedia. Thanks in advance Afantitis

Hi. I see it was deleted again. Hm, that means you'll have some extra work if you want to get it back. You will have to ask for undeletion. As for the article... it's a bit short and it should state the importance more explicitly, the impact, activities and such things. If you get it over undeletion of course, but I can't help you with that. Regards. --Tone 20:50, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
