From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This star, with one point broken, symbolizes the featured candidates on Wikipedia.
Here, we determine which articles are featured on Wikipedia:Featured articles. A featured article should exemplify Wikipedia's very best work by meeting the featured article criteria.

Nominators are expected to make a good-faith effort to address objections. If you have worked on your nomination, note it as a "self-nomination". Please do not post more than one nomination at a time, which will make it hard to do justice to each. Before nominating an article, you may wish to receive feedback by listing it at Wikipedia:Peer review.

For a nomination to be promoted to FA status, consensus must be reached that it meets the criteria. Consensus is built among the reviewers and nominators, and determination of whether there is consensus is made by the Featured Article Director. If, after sufficient time, objections have not been resolved or consensus for promotion has not been reached, a nomination is removed from the list and archived. The timing is determined by the Director on a case-by-case basis.

Because you may have spent weeks or even months working on an article, you may feel emotionally attached to it. Although you may know more about the subject than the reviewers, please be aware that all professional writers take criticism from editors, and that FA candidates should strive to be of a professional quality. Therefore, nominators must gracefully accept criticism that is in accordance with the FA criteria.

Nomination procedure

  1. Check the featured article criteria and ensure that the article meets all of them before nominating.
  2. Place {{fac}} on the talk page of the nominated article.
  3. From there, click on the "leave comments" link.
  4. If you are resubmitting an article, use the Move button to archive the previous discussion. For example, Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Television → Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Television/archive1
  5. Place ===[[name of nominated article]]=== at the top.
  6. Below it, write your reason for nominating the article and sign with ~~~~.
  7. Copy this text:{{Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/name of nominated article}}, then edit this page, pasting the template at the top of the list of candidates. Replace "name of..." with the name of your nomination.

Supporting and objecting

Please read a nominated article fully before deciding to support or oppose a nomination.

  • To comment on a nomination, click the "edit" link to the right of the article nomination (not the "edit this page" link for the whole FAC page).
  • If you believe that the article meets all of the criteria, write '''Support''' followed by your reasons. If you have been a significant contributor to this article, please indicate this.
  • If you oppose a nomination, write '''Object''' followed by the reason(s) for your objection. Each objection must provide a specific rationale that can be addressed. If nothing can be done in principle to address the objection, it may be ignored. Be aware that references on style and grammar do not always agree; if a contributor cites support for a certain style in a standard reference work or other authoritative source, consider accepting it.
  • Reviewers who object are strongly encouraged to return after a few days to check whether the objection has been addressed. To withdraw the objection, strike it out (with <s>...</s>) rather than removing it. Nominators should allow reviewers the opportunity to strike their comments or objections. Even if you feel that the matter has already been addressed, say so rather than striking out their text.
