Tony Terry

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tony Terry is an African American R&B/new jack swing singer from Washington, DC.

Throughout the beginning of his career, Terry landed backup singing jobs for the R&B/pop group Sweet Sensation and hip-hop group The Boogie Boys. In 1987, he signed a record deal with Epic/CBS Records. Terry's first single, "She's Fly", was released the same year, and peaked at number 10 on Billboard's R&B Singles chart. Forever Yours, Terry's debut album for Epic, was released in 1988, and reached the Top 30 of Billboard's R&B albums chart. The follow-up to "She's Fly", "Lovey Dovey", hit number-four on the R&B charts. It was his biggest hit. The single "Forever Yours" was a modest hit, reaching the R&B Top 20.

Terry's second album, a self-titled release, included the single "With You", which was a Top 20 hit on Billboard's pop chart as well as the R&B chart. "Everlasting Love", a number-six R&B hit as was "With You", was also successful. After leaving Epic, Terry moved over to Virgin Records. His debut album for the label was 1994's Heart Of A Man. The album was a commercial failure in sales and on the charts. The following year, Terry contributed background vocals to a track on Yolanda Adams's album More Than A Melody. As the years went by, Terry began to develop his acting talents, landing roles in stage plays.

Whew!! So why does he continue after all of this success you ask? Well let me take you back. It starts out simply: as a young child Tony Terry accepted Christ. Although he was “saved,” he grew into a man that made wrong decisions and whose path took him down a road that was full of depression, doubt, discouragement and fear. There came a time when he felt completely alone and as if he belong. After a stint with drug use, Terry finally hit bottom and the world that he was facing was giving him more than he could handle.

“I remember in one of my darkest days, it all of a sudden hit me – I forgot my mom’s birthday! This was more than a forgetful mind it was a revelation to me that no matter what is happening in life, you can’t forget your family whether physical family or spiritual family.” With that revelation in mind, Terry reached out to God praying for forgiveness and asking for the peace beyond all comprehension to fill his soul and for his steps to be ordered according to God’s will. And with that prayer he was reminded of where his life truly began – as a young child accepting Christ.

That brings us to now where Tony Terry is returning to recording with a new image, new sound and a new hit album entitled, Changed! With this new album, Tony not only wants to continue being a pure example of desire and determination, but also to embrace the world and help remind them of what joy really is. Terry exclaims, “My desire is to share experience and help others who are feeling alone or have a broken spirit know that God has open arms waiting for them to fall into Him.”

He wants his fans old and new to experience He wants his fans old and new to experience an artist who is willing to give the best the he’s got and then some. Changed! is a testament of just that. Featuring blazing tracks such as “Praise Him,” “I Wanna Thank You, Lord” and “Nobody Like Jesus” and soul-stirring songs like “Look to the Hills,” “Jesus to Hold” and “Come Child,” Tony Terry is back and he’s ready to give his listener’s what they have been missing. Tony adds, "I am grateful to God for all I’ve been able to achieve, but I’m not finished yet"!

He is currently signed to Studio 25 Recordings. The first single, “Praise Him,” from the new project is currently at radio and the CD is released April 18th in conjunction with the Jordan Entertainment Group that came to fruition by former General Manager of Verity Records Jazzy Jordan.

So that brings us to today where through it all, Tony Terry now lives a fulfilling life with his wife in Las Vegas, NV singing songs of celebration. It reminds us all that if we just take the time to “go back to family” our entire life’s course can be “changed” for the better.
