[edit] Early career

Tony started DJing in the late 1970s, establishing a reputation for himself as a party DJ on the wedding and birthday party circuit whilst working as a carpenter by day. Local pirate station ARD (Alternative Radio Dublin) advertised a competition to find new "jocks". Tony, ever the enthusiast, went along for the auditions (which were organised by Mike Moloney), and failed miserably. However, after a number of approaches, ARD finally gave Tony a job in 1979. He flourished in local radio and attracted the attention of Dublin's bigger pirate stations.

[edit] Denmark

During the 1980s Tony was headhunted by stations in the ever growing Dublin market and went on to present shows on Sunshine Radio and Radio Nova before leaving Ireland to work on radio in Denmark.

[edit] Back to Ireland and 2fm Career

Then in 1985 the call came to move back to Ireland. 2FM (then Radio 2) had started in 1979 and was now beginning to look for newer, fresher presenters to help compete against the pirates. Tony had gained a reputation and an audience while working with the pirates and it was hoped that that audience would follow. RTÉ's hopes were realised and during his early days there he helped grow the station's audience as presenter of many different shows throughout the schedule. However, for many, it was the Hotline which brought Tony to national prominence.

[edit] Today FM Career

In March 2003 Tony left 2fm to pursue other interests but he missed the buzz of radio and in September 2004 joined national independent station Today FM to present a new lunchtime show on the station. His show, sponsored by O'Briens sandwich bars, was one of the most popular lunchtime shows on Irish radio. In November 2006 his show was replaced by The Ray Foley Show although he can now be heard on Today FM from 2.30p.m. to 4.30p.m.

[edit] Private Life

In September 2006 Fenton was fined €600 and had his licence endorsed after a sitting of Shannon District Court convicted him of dangerous driving. The offence happened in Limerick on September 6. [1]
