Tong Sui

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tong sui (Chinese: 糖水; pinyin: táng shuǐ; literally "sugar water") also known as tian tang (Chinese: 甜湯; pinyin: tián tāng; literally "sweet soup"), is a sweet Cantonese soup served as a dessert at the end of a meal. Although the soup is typically made with red bean paste, tong sui can be made from a wide variety of "revitalizing" medicinal ingredients, such as lotus seeds, dried longans, and snow fungus. The soup can also be made of ground sesame, peanuts, or almonds thickened with flour and boiled to the consistency of congee.

Higher priced tong sui can be found using exotic ingredients such as bird's nest or hasma.
