User talk:Tom9
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome!
Welcome to Wikipedia, Tom9! My name is Ryan, aka Acetic Acid. I noticed that you were new and haven't received any messages yet. I just wanted to see how you were doing. Wikipedia can be a little intimidating at first, since it uses different formatting than other sites that use HTML and CSS. In the long run, though, you'll find that the WikiSyntax is a lot easier and faster than those other ways. Here are a few links to get you started:
- How to edit a page
- Editing, policy, conduct, and structure tutorial
- Picture tutorial
- How to write a great article
There are a lot of policies and guides to read, but I highly recommend reading over those first. If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Please be sure to sign your name on Talk using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, along with a link to your user page. This way, others know when you left a message and how to find you. It's easier than having to type out your name, right? :)
I hope you enjoy contributing to Wikipedia. We can use all the help we can get! Have a nice day. Sincerely, Ryan. 11:19, August 1, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Image tagging
You need to tag the images you upload (See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags). Also, you need to use your images in articles or they will be deleted as orphans. -- Thanks Nv8200p 23:00, 3 September 2005 (UTC)
- The images you have uploaded look very much as though they may be copyright violations. You must state their sources so that we can be sure that Wikipedia is allowed to use them.
- I have deleted loco.jpg on the grounds that it was a stupid title. Image:3526.jpg is a good enough replacement.
- I have also deleted:
- Image:Loc no1.jpg and Image:1855loc no1.jpg both exact duplicates of Image:Loc no1sydtoparra.jpg
- Image:Powerhouse.jpg: and Image:00217992powerhouse.jpg both exact duplicates of Image:Locopowerhouse.jpg
- Why the multiple uploads? -- RHaworth 23:11, 28 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Article tagging
Do not remove tags such as Wikify and cleanup until they have been actioned. As in Rail Transport Museum of New South Wales. -- RHaworth 05:06, 29 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Image Tagging Image:3526.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:3526.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag, so its copyright status is therefore unclear. Please add a tag to let us know its copyright status. (If you created/took the picture then you can use {{gfdl}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairuse}}.) See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have tagged them, too. Note that any unsourced and untagged imaged will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. --Nv8200p (talk) 03:51, 30 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Thomas & Friends Lego Duplo - Do Not Remove Article for Deletion Templates
Removing AFD templates, is techinically Vandalism:
"Avoidant vandalism Removing "{afd}", "{copyvio}" and other related tags in order to conceal or avoid entries to risk deletion."
If you disagree, take it up on the articles entry on Articles for Deletion, instead of just removing it from the article. Thank you. Blightsoot 11:25, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Copyright of Image:Thomaslioneltrain.jpg
Hi there, thanks for uploading Image:Thomaslioneltrain.jpg. I noticed that there is some required information missing from the image description page. The Wikimedia Foundation has to be very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law. We need you to specify two things on the image description page:
- who created the image
- the copyright status
If you created the image:
If you haven't already, please add a note on the image description page saying that you created it.
Next you need to choose a copyright license so that people on Wikipedia know what they can and cannot do with your image. There are only a few licenses to choose from for images you created yourself. Once you have decided which one you wish to use, simply copy the tag exactly as shown into the image description. Please note that you MUST allow people to freely use and copy your image (although you may apply some conditions to that), else it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you wish to make your image usable under the same terms as the rest of Wikipedia, you can use the {{GFDL-self}} tag.
If you didn't create the image:
If you haven't already, please provide a URL to the site it came from (or the name of the source if it didn't come from a website) and the name of the person or organisation that owns the copyright on the image description page.
You next need to add a copyright tag so that other users know how the image may be used. Please browse the list of image copyright tags and determine which applies to the image. If, after browsing this page, you are unsure of the tag to add, please add a {{Don't know}} tag to the image description and someone will help you choose the correct tag.
Please note that if you do not choose a copyright tag for the image within seven days, it will be deleted. Please could you ensure that any other images you have uploaded also have the above information in the description - you can see a list of the images you've uploaded by clicking on My Contributions and selecting Image from the drop-down box. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask on my talk page. Thanks! —David Johnson [T|C] 10:54, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Thomascarryset.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Thomascarryset.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. -- Carnildo 01:30, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Toby2.jpg)
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Toby2.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that your image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If your image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why your image was deleted. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Admrb♉ltz (T | C) 23:09, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image Tagging Image:Ferryfred.jpg
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Ferryfred.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Shyam (T/C) 22:52, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image Tagging for Image:Theworldofthomas.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Theworldofthomas.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
