Tommy Zethraeus

Tommy Zethraeus, born 28 May 1968, Swedish murderer currently serving a life sentence for a shooting spree called Stureplansmorden.

On 4 December 1994 Zethraeus, his accomplice Guillermo Marques Jara and a friend is refused entry to the restaurant Sturecompagniet in Stockholm. Sometime after 5:00 a.m. they return equipped with an AG-3 automatic rifle. Zethraeus starts firing into the crowd in front of the door, killing 4 people (Jara is supposed to have fired some shots but this could not be proved) and wounding 20 people.

After the incident Jara and Zethreus spent three days on the run, sparking the largest manhunt since the murder of Olof Palme and the hunt for Lasermannen. On 7 December they were arrested at a roadblock near Drottningholm.

At the trial Zethraeus, Jara and a 22 year old friend of theirs (who was acquitted) were charged with the murders. Zethraeus was sentenced to life in prison and Jara to 10 years. During the court proceedings it was claimed that Zethraeus was the one responsible for the deaths since he was the only one with any previous experience of firing a machine gun (something he is supposed to have been taught during his military training).

It is claimed (often by the evening press) that Zethraeus is operating a criminal network from his prison cell. This however remains to be proved.
