[edit] Career
The "Emperor" Tommy Nero has been a fan of professional wrestling since a child. Growing up in New York, he remembers watching on TV the WWWF with Bruno, Pedro, and the boys. He loved the Grand Wizard. When his family relocated to Florida, he watched both the Mid-Atlantic wrestling and Florida Championship wrestling. He regularly attended cards at the Eddie Graham sports complex. he loved Dusty Rhodes and Wahoo McDaniel. Wahoo sure could land a chop. Ric Flair’s chops are nothing compared to Wahoos.
While attending graduate school at the University of Central Florida in 1990, he attended a scheduled event at the now bull-dozed down Eddie Graham Sports Complex in Orlando. When he got there, they cancelled the show due to poor attendance. He spoke to some of the brass with the company and told them he wanted to help. He took a volunteer position as a beat writer with the college newspaper writing about wrestling. After a mont or so, they were gone and now, a subdivision exists on the same ground that he watched legends perform. In early 1999, while a professor in Texas, he ran into former World Class wrestling legend, Steve Simpson. A friend of is, “Coach” John Anthony and him spoke to Steve about being trained to be wrestlers. Wrestling was very hot back then and they wanted to put on a fundraiser to help the college’s athletic program. Steve agreed. John and Nero finished four events at the college, with record crowds of 800 (that gym has never seen that many paid fans), 400, 350, and 200 respectively. After the four shows, he was addicted to the sport. Combine that with other variables, and he decided to apply for licensure as TCW – Texas Championship Wrestling. For one year, he ran at first monthly, and then weekly shows. As a heel manager, he had heat with everyone. His favorite matches were any with COACH especially his first match ever and the one in front of 800 in Plano against the COACH; with Black Bart against COACH and Luminous in a Plano Street Fight; the six man elimination tag with Hawkeye, Amazing Mike, Big Johnson, Sean Reagan, and Paul Lewis; me managing the Masked Italiano (Jeremy Young) against Redd Dogg and JAZZ; and, BATTLE BOX.
