Tom & Jerry Kids Show, also known as Tom & Jerry Kids is an American animated television series, produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions and Turner Entertainment, featuring the popular cat-and-mouse pair as children. The show debuted on FOX on September 8, 1990 and continued airing until October 2, 1993, producing a total of 65 episodes.

Tom & Jerry Kids is somewhat similar to the "older" version of the Tom & Jerry shorts. In terms of level of violence, they are less violent than their predecessor. Also, they show some tendency of using various tools or weapons in order to attack each other, rather than solely resort to simple chasing. As usual, the feisty feline Tom constantly tries to catch the lovable mouse Jerry, often causing lots of mishaps for the duo.

[edit] Appearance

Perhaps the notable differences from the classic shorts are Tom and Jerry's appearances. The young Tom wore a red baseball cap on his head, and the young Jerry had a nice clump of hair on his head and sported a red bow tie (a symbol of the 1975 Hanna-Barbera Tom and Jerry cartoons).

[edit] Characters

The show also features a variety of characters, three of them are based from the classic Tex Avery cartoons: The slow-talking hound Droopy, the surreptitious McWolf, and the attractive Miss Vavoom. Two of the show's main characters were actually seen in some of the early Tom and Jerry shorts as well: Spike and his son Tyke. New supporting characters in Tom & Jerry Kids include Droopy's son Dripple, Slowpoke Antonio, Clyde, and Kyle the Cat. It's also worth noting that two lesser known Hanna-Barbera characters, namely Blast Off Buzzard and Crazylegs Snake, had a handful of cartoon shorts dedicated to their antics during the series. The most notable change between the 'Tom & Jerry Kids' shorts and the original episodes that aired during Hanna-Barbera's 'The CB Bears' show, was that both Blast Off and Crazylegs actually had voice overs in the recent installments. The older cartoons had no spoken dialogue or vocal recordings, and instead relied on music and sound effects, akin to Warner Bros. Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner shorts.

[edit] Show Style

The show consists of three seven-minute shorts. The earliest (1990-1991) episodes contained two Tom and Jerry shorts, and one short that either features Droopy or Spike. However, the later episodes that begun airing in 1992 had become more variant in terms of featured characters. Characters that starred in their own segments include Slowpoke Antonio, Kyle the Cat, and Wildmouse. Many times, there was only one Tom and Jerry short featured in the 1992-1993 episodes.

[edit] Airings

After Tom & Jerry Kids went off production in 1993, it moved to the Cartoon Network for reruns. Currently, the show is not airing on Cartoon Network and has recently been seen on Boomerang & Cartoon Network TOO.
