[edit] Timeline

Tom Clancy has set the timeline in 2010.I'm sure some imagination must be used when predicting the future, but an author must draw the line between that and going overboard, like new boomerang sports, a totally restructured education system, and weapon systems being used which are probably only in research phase now, also I am not sure what is the role of Net here, as specified in the title of the series, it seems mostly a fantasy tale from the technical point of view, when you consider the fact that Clancy's strongest point (or one of his strongest) is attention to detail. What exactly is the qualification of some of the leading characters in the main unit (ie why are they in this unit) is not made very clear, unless they are made members of a high tech unit on the basis of their excellect interpersonal skill/ obscure martial art knowledge alone.

Some if the stuff is a bit improbable, I'll give you that. Not quite sure what you mean by "new boomerang sports", as the only reference I saw made to them was in-line with today's stuff. Then again, I've only read Net Force, Hidden Agendas, Changing of the Guard, and Springboard, though I'm working on CyberNation right now. That's about all I have to say here. -OnikageWolf

[edit] Net Force

I really enjoy reading these books, simply because of the futuristic aspect of it. The time is not too far into the future and the really noticable change from this time, to their time is the use of the Internet. The weapons used - and Tom Clancy used a very sneeky way of getting out of making new weapons - are usually current weapons because 'they are a lot more dependable' then the new ones...

The Internet crime was a very good idea, mainly because now, it seems very real that VR could be the next best thing to happen to computers.

The jobs of Net Force seem appropraite, but only a couple seem like they accually belong to Net Force. Smokin' ( or Lightnin' ) Jay Gridley seems the perfect person for the his programing job. And Colonel ( or General ) Howard seems the perfect man to do the fighting ( so does Julio ). But Toni Florilla and Alex Micheals seem... out of place. But, most head jobs aren't often given to those who aren't perfectly suited to the purpose of the company. They are usually picked for being good desicion makers, so they aren't that out of place.

All in all. A very good job. But, in the Changing of the Gaurd, will we ever see Alex and Toni again? I haven't gotten that far in the series.
