[edit] Story
When Ichigo Momomiya is studying in England with Masaya Aoyama, we are introduced to Berry Shirayuki. She has just transferred over to her new private school for the uniforms and is trying to adjust. She later runs into Ryou Shirogane, who she follows into Cafe Mew Mew. While Berry is staring in awe at all the cakes and pastries, Ryou sees her and yells. Berry, caught by surprise, falls up top of the snacks. Embarrassed, she runs into the employee's only section of the Cafe, and runs into the DNA-infusion device. She is transformed into a Mew Mew, with the DNA of a rabbit and a cat. To make things worse, she must temporarily take Ichigo's place as leader of the Mews to defend Tokyo from the Saint Rose Crusaders, all while juggling her schoolwork and her new job at the Cafe. When Ichigo returns, she and Berry become fast friends and she and the other Mew Mews move to her school in case of an attack.
[edit] Characters
Though Ichigo and the other Mew Mews and other characters from the original series are in this series, these are the new characters introduced in Tokyo Mew Mew à la Mode.
[edit] Protagonists
- Berry Shirayuki (白雪ベリ Shirayuki Berii) - A Mew Mew who appears only in Tokyo Mew Mew a la Mode and the last page of the 7th volume of Tokyo Mew Mew, taking over leadership for Ichigo when Ichigo goes to England with Aoyama. Berry is the only member of the team who was infused with the DNA of two animals: An Andean Mountain Cat and the Amami Rabbit. Berii is 12 years old and lives just outside Tokyo.
- Tasuku Meguro (目黒侑 Meguro Tasuku) - Berry's best friend who later becomes her crush then soon after boyfriend. He finds out Berry is a Mew Mew, and accepts it quickly. He is deceived by the Crusaders, giving off the impression that he hates Berry. Berry pulls him out of the darkness, and they announce their feelings for each other. He and Berry help Cafe Mew Mew, by delivering deserts and such.
[edit] Antagonists
- Saint Rose Crusaders - The villains of Tokyo Mew Mew a la Mode, they are a group of humans who take control of the remaining Chimera Animals and intend to use them for world domination. The members of the group are Royal Highness/Aizuki Yuuzen, Happy Child/Utamaro, Blue Bayou, Sweet Juliet and the leader, Duke. Aizuki poses as a teacher at Berry's school.
[edit] Other
- Sakurako and Kaoruko - Berry's friends from her school in Tokyo Mew Mew à la Mode, they are both very rich, which is presumably how they got into the private junior high school.
[edit] Trivia
- It was said in Tokyo Mew Mew à la Mode volume 2 on the third "Berry's Rush Report" page that the Tokyo Mew Mew series wouldn't be continued because the editor had grown bored with the "unimportant sidekick" characters, i.e. every character except for Ichigo and Berry.
- À la mode is a French phrase meaning "in the prevailing fashion". However, most Americans are familar with this phrase meaning "with ice cream", which would fit Tokyo Mew Mew, as all the Mew Mews and most of the aliens are named after food items.
