Talk:Tokelauan self-determination referendum, 2006
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
- The passage of this referendum would likely have removed Tokelau from the United Nations list of Non-Self-Governing Territories. It is unclear if the democratic rejection of self-governance will have a similar effect.
I'm not absolutely certain, so haven't edited, but I don't think it would. After all, Bermuda rejected independence in a referendum, and Gibraltar also voted overwhelmingly to stay British, and both those territories are still on the list. I belive the US Virgin Islands are in much the same position. Loganberry (Talk) 13:02, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

- Yeah, I'm just gonna remove it; I can't see what it's based on at all.--Pharos 01:36, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
Islanders chose not to change Tokelau's status from an unincorporated territory of New Zealand to the proposed alternative is unfortunate wording, as most voters did support the change. Zocky | picture popups 02:47, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
