Welcome to Wikipedia, Todfox! My name is Ryan, aka Acetic Acid. I noticed that you were new and haven't received any messages yet. I just wanted to see how you were doing. Wikipedia can be a little intimidating at first, since it uses different formatting than other sites that use HTML and CSS. In the long run, though, you'll find that the WikiSyntax is a lot easier and faster than those other ways. Here are a few links to get you started:

          Excuse my lack of Wikipedia manners, I'm relatively new to this whole process, but I have a direct question to Ms. Kit O'Connel, who claims to be Dr. Joseph Ransohoff's granddaughter. I am his son. I just happened to stumble across a grossly short article about my father, when a sudden whim took me into the "discussion" section, and lead me here to your user page. I'd really love to know how we are related. Overall, I think things are settled there now; the external links section could still be better but hopefully that will be better improved after the proposed rewrite.           Please follow the discussion you created at Jaredite. You stated:

          This article, especially the section on the Jaredite origin of blacks, reads like it is taken from Mormon scripture and doctrine. Thus I added the bias tag.

          NPOV on religious articles is taken seriously by myself and a number of other admins who watch religous articles. However, your argument is not sound. No offense meant, but this is a faith-based topic, and should be written from the point of view of its origination (which in this case would be a Mormon viewpoint) - that is common sense. If not, we may as well add similar tags to hundreds of biblical characters including Cain, Cush and Esau, Moses and others as their is no physical evidence for their existence and the historical infomation about them is believed based on faith in the Bible/Torah/Koran. The article includes a number of "obligatory neutrality disclaimers" such as "The Jaredites are an alleged ancient people ... " and "according to the narrative ...." and "in the Book of Mormon, specifically the Book of Ether, the Jaredites are described."

          I don't think any reader who reads the article will think any more than this is a people described in the Book of Mormon. I guess we are having a hard time understanding your concern. If you have specific concerns about the article, lets address them, but to say this is written from a "Mormon point of view" is not a sound argument, as the term would not exist if it were not for the Mormon point of view. Either clarify your thoughts or withdraw your argument. The tag will likely be removed by myself or another admin within a few days if no response. We want to ensure that religious-based articles are NPOV, so your concern is important, but your reasoning is either faulty or incomplete. -Visorstuff 16:20, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

          [edit] Sock Puppet Policy

          I'm somewhat new to Wikipedia myself, but it appears to me that there is very strong evidence to suggest that NPOVenforcer is a sock puppet of the anonymous user (that he has reverted back to before). Is there anything we can do about the situation to remedy it? I read the Wikipedia policy on sock puppets and if he is, in fact, a sock puppet and using that sock puppet for deception, Wikipedia can take action against him. But it's unclear to me how one would begin that action. There is a template we can paste onto his user page, but all that would happen if we did that (I assume) is that he would delete it and try to get "revenge" or whatnot. In any case, thought I would see if you knew any more about this than I do. Feel free to delete this comment if you feel the need.           Although I believe that NPOVenforcer and 67,* are very likely the same person, I think that would make this more a case of straight up lying rather than real sock puppetry. However, I do believe that his hitlist on his User page is in violation of Wikipedia:Civility. If you would like to do something about it I suggest on of us post an RfC on his behavior.           Yes, I noticed that. I was added at the same time as they made the bad-faith-assuming reply, which demonstrates to me a remarkable lack of patience for asychronous conversations. The whole thing is in remarkably bad taste, but then I gather that they've already concluded that all these people jumping on them are part of a shadowy cabal, and so have entirely eliminated the community's ability to help them. Their ability for creating misunderstanding just with the judicious application of impatience is impressive, and doesn't bode well for their career here.

          Although, so far it's mostly limited to a tasteless user page. I'm hoping they're just going to be a harmless dissident rather than anything worse.  — Saxifrage | ☎ 08:42, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

          I just noticed that the user that NPOVenforcer was "backing" at Talk:Objectivist philosophy (according to the indirect accusation on their user page) is the very same User:67.159.26.71 as appeared at Polyamory. It's easily possible NPOVenforcer is just following 71 around, but the alternative possibilities mean their comparative editing habits bear watching.  — Saxifrage | ☎ 08:47, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

          He's also backing the same anonymous editor on Capitalism and related political ideologies for which he has added User:Mihnea Tudoreanu to his hitlist. Given that thus far he only champions that anonymous editor's work and has yet to look for an NPOV issue elsewhere to 'enforce', I find it extremely hard to believe his assertions that they are different people.

          The irony is that if he keeps up this sort of behavior he probably will have a "cabal" of people who oppose him. Kit 09:16, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

          I've been reading some of the edits and the voice is similar (though lacks character enough that it's hardly decisive). Also, Ne's comment at Wikipedia talk:Neutral point of view compared against 71's edit history shows a significant match of opinion on the state of Wikipedia's cosmology articles.           I've removed it- as an involved party, it wouldn't have been suggested for you to do so personally. There's a chance another admin will unblock, so don't expect NPOVenforcer to be gone forever. But I personally think the name, combined with his/her actions, warrant an indefinite block in this case.           Respectfully,I think you are incorrect: Harald88 is far more prolific, predates NPOVenforcer, and disagreed with him in his most recent comment to to the RfC on NPOVenforcer (he just added it today). NPOVenforcer may have looked to harald88 as a potential ally but I believe they are different people -- neither a sock puppet nor a meat puppet but an actual other person.           Damn that's confusing! I looked at them and managed to eliminate a couple of the items from the list but the rest have me stumped. Why mostly mushrooms? And only some of the mushrooms we deal with, at that? I will look again later when I am more fresh but in the meantime you might want to take this up with the Wikiproject.           Thank you for catching the copyvio on Kenji Siratori. I discovered that page just today, checking up on recent changes in cyberpunk. Someone had written him into the lead, mentioning him in the same breath as Bruce Sterling and William Gibson; OK, so those two aren't exactly my cup of mate, but a writer would have to be pretty darn influential to deserve placement there. I have provisionally removed Siratori from that article (it's clear he doesn't belong in the lead, at least), and I worked up a quick stub at Kenji Siratori/Temp to address NPOV and copyvio issues.

          Yes, an anonymous editor keeps appearing both to edit Kenji Siratori and to add Siratori's name to numerous other articles relating to science fiction -- for example, I also deleted Siratori's Blood Electric from Sex in science fiction because he had added it to the list of notable works without any comment as to what made the sexuality in it notable, and damned if I could figure out what it was about from any of the reviews or descriptions on line. Needless to say, that's when I discovered that the text of Kenji Siratori was ripped verbatim from the Blood Electric publicity materials on the Creation Books page. So if you see Siratori's name added to an article, check the other contributions by that IP address; chances are it is being added to other articles too.

          My one concern is that there may be an issue verifying the fact that it really is a copyright violation if the publisher's website doesn't come back soon. I will probably try to dig it up via archive.org.

          Incidentally, some of the reviews of his book on Amazon are quite funny too, especially the one that includes an excerpt of the (incomprehensible) text.Kit 10:11, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

          I went through the "what links here" for the Siratori article and removed the most egregious insertions. Some mentioned him in contexts which were chronologically impossible—when you're born in 1975 and first published in 2002, some things just don't work. Some of the remaining mentions are questionable, but it would require a little more research to determine if they are outright fabrications or not. Anville 14:56, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
          The list of removals I made, if you were curious, is as follows: Craig Clevenger, List of industrial music subgenres, Techno-progressivism, Post-Futurism, Splatterpunk, Cyberculture, Electronic art, Futurism (art), Internet art, Arthur Rimbaud, Magic realism, Trent Reznor, Experiment, Postcyberpunk, William S. Burroughs, New Wave (science fiction) (one of the chronological impossibilities), Minimalism, James Joyce, David Bowie (a nice irrelevant mention) and Bruce Sterling (which claimed Siratori was a "founder" of cyberpunk).           Good work! In addition, I have made the following changes: Postcyberpunk was alphabetized so Siratori was not at the top of the list of authors, although I left Siratori himself in Transgressional fiction I removed his Blood Electric from the list of "major" works, I also removed Blood Electric from Transgressional art; finally he was removed from List of performance artists, List of bisexuals, and List of anarchists because his article makes no mention of those associations and relevant Google searches came up empty. His other current mentions look at least minimally appropriate, at least for now. If this is self-promotion it is certainly a novel form given that he had been added to List of self-harmers (but was already removed by another editor before I got there)!           I also nixed him from Avant-garde due to being also mentioned on Postcyberpunk, Bizarro, and Cyberpunk genre discussions -- there are only so many genres one minor author can belong too, no? Finally, I left a note for Jameswilliamson who was responsible for some of the edits -- Wikipedia:Assume good faith prevents me from speculating on whether he was also responsible for the more egregious anonymous edits.           I just thought of a great Sokal-esque thing to do with the Kenji Siratori article. Under "Quotations", we could throw in some sentences like, "BLOOD->DNA flesh altered by genes/MEMES. Oncomemes thrashing in the afterdeath of 1,000 burning babies -- hope://null." and see if anyone can tell them apart from the real thing.           You are welcome -- you took an extra step and in the process cleaned up a problem in a lot of articles that might have gone unnoticed for some time unless one of us got around to doing it so I felt you were deserving.

          Love the speech, and love the fantasy Transmet cast even more -- well done. I love Burning Man -- my first experience at a local event changed my life for sure, and going to the Big Burn twice was great too. I like the wikiproject a lot and while I try to do what I can I, also, do not have nearly as much time or as brainpower as I wish.

          Great fake text, that kind of culture jamming is hugely tempting here sometimes I agree. I resist the urge but in my mind I fantasize about the things I could do. Good thing fantasy is safe!

          I showed Siratori's overblown bio and the list of articles we deleted him from to an author friend of mine tonight -- someone who is in the main wikipedia namespace and, unlike Siratori is totally qualified and also, unlike Siratori apparently, writes books with plots -- and we had a good laugh coming up with overblown biographical data we could add to his article to make it similar. Maybe what we need is to start the 'Egopedia project', where anyone can have a vanity page as long as it is up to "The Siratori Standard." Kit 08:48, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

          I've made two administrative edits to the Eeyore's Birthday Party article. 1) I removed a red link for an article on the guy who started the festival. You got an AFD vote by creating the article - that was overcome handsomely of course - but you might be tempting fate to go and create a seperate article on the founder, or invite others to. If the person is notable for other reasons go ahead and put the link back in, but I clicked the red link and checked the 'what links here' and he only got a link from Eeyore's Birthday Party. That suggests non-notable. 2) I removed the cleanup tag as I see nothing wrong with the article compared to the average. --kingboyk 01:59, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

          It is a total blast, be sure to attend (and let me know:) if you are ever in this part of Texas at the right time of year. There are also number of other similar events around that time -- the Bob Marley Festival is typically a week before and Burning Flipside takes place the following month.           Whew . . . well, user:Prometheuspan completely rewrote the whole thing (as i guess you've seen), and i'm currently trying to salvage what i can of his edits, but i'm not sure how successful i've been. check out his talk page and the conversation there with thoric for some background . . . honestly i'm really not sure what to do about it all. i'll be done with my rewrite of his rewrite in about two minutes, so you can check that out too . . . but like i said, i really don't know how we should handle this . . . --Heah talk 06:34, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

          I was pretty confused by it too, and honestly thought abot reverting but I am glad that we waited. Although I think the current article needs work, I do think the long-term effect of your contributions was overall to improve the article. It just caused some chaos in the meantime, like you said. I would say the more communication with the other editors on the page the better, as it tends to help minimize this sort of confusion. Having to find the discussion on your talk page was less optimal than if you'd opened a discussion of your changes, as you made them, on Talk:Psychonaut.           I noticed that you recently reverted my edit to Ranger. Per MoS:DP, disambiguation pages should not contain extraneous links that do not directly disambiguate. I quote from the first paragraph:

          Disambiguation pages ("dab pages") are, like redirects, non-article pages in the article namespace. Disambiguation pages are solely intended to allow users to choose among several Wikipedia articles, usually when a user searches for an ambiguous term. This style guideline is intended to make this process more efficient by giving disambiguation pages a consistent look and avoiding distracting information, such as extraneous links (internal or external).

          Cool idea, but after seeing yours, I realized that having a public key on a wiki is not the best of ideas, because anybody can edit it. Man-in-the-middle attack, and all.           hey man what's up. Remember me? It hasnt been too too long, you should remember. Anyways, just dropping in to see how things are going for you. About a week ago I got out of Sheppard Pratt because of ongoing and depression and suicidal thoughts. I also got kicked out of school when that happened, and a few days ago i learned that I am expelled from school so I have to go to an alternative school. It all started pretty much because of me getting caught with a bunch of shit at school (weed, and then what do you know i had Aleve/Naproxen (it's like prescription tylenol) in my pocket, and then i had cigarettes) Apparently some kid in my class told the teacher i smelled like weed so she sent me to the office and they searched my locker and shit dude.
