[edit] Song information
"To Love You More" was the theme song for a popular Japanese drama series, called The Lovers.
It was released commercially in Japan only. First, as a single in October 1995, and later as a maxi-single with remixes, in April 1999. Club mixes were created by Tony Moran.
"To Love You More" was released also as a promotional single in United States, in May 1998, and the next year in Brazil.
This song was featured on the following albums:
- The Colour of My Love - Japanese limited edition (released as the last single from this album);
- Falling into You - Japanese edition (released as the first single from this album);
- Live à Paris - released as the second promo single in Canada;
- Let's Talk About Love - U.S. edition (released as the third single from this album);
- All the Way... A Decade of Song.
In 1996, Sony released a promotional video that shows a live performance with Taro Hakase on violin, from the Falling into You Tour.
"To Love You More" won Golden Disc Award for best single of the year.
Live version can be found on Live in Memphis VHS, Au Coeur Du Stade DVD, and All the Way... A Decade of Song and Video DVD.
Céline sings it also five nights a week in her show, A New Day..., at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas.
[edit] Chart success
"To Love You More" became a smash hit in Japan, where it hit #1 and sold over 1.2 million copies. Céline was the first international artist who reached #1 on singles chart, since Irene Cara's "Flashdance... What a Feeling" in 1983.
The song was also very successful on American radio, although the edited version played by most U.S. radio stations omitted Kryzler & Company's violin bridge and also chopped out a sizeable chunk of the song's ending. It spent 8 weeks at #1 on Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, and reached #11 on Hot 100 Airplay.
