"To Be With You" is a song by the American hard rock group Mr. Big. It appears in the album Lean into It (1991) and was written by Eric Martin (lead singer) when a teenager, and later polished together with songwriter David Grahame. It's a love ballad, and probably, the most notorious Mr. Big's song (as Billy Sheehan always used to mention it as their passport to travel).
Much played in U.S. radio, and the video being the top of MTV (a great session pick in the studio, that can be seen in Lean into It (Video)), could push the band to debut #1 in the U.S. and head for three weeks and count other charts in 13 more countries.
[edit] Trivia
- It opened the door to the Atlantic bet in acoustic songs for Mr. Big's career (Wild World, Ain't Seen Love Like That - were released in 1993)
- Eric Martin admitted he wrote the song, at the time, "to woo his sister's friends"
- The reason why the track was released as the last track in Lean into It (1991) is explained by Paul Gilbert: "We were a little scared of it. We were supposed to be a thunderous hard rock band! But we all loved the song, so we snuck it on the album as the last track".
