The Lion King's Timon & Pumbaa is a Disney animated television series that premiered from 1995 to 1999.
It stars Timon, a meerkat, and Pumbaa, a warthog, both characters from the Disney animated films The Lion King and The Lion King II: Simba's Pride. On February 10, 2004, they starred in their own feature film, The Lion King 1½ which takes place behind the events of The Lion King.
Ernie Sabella and Nathan Lane reprised thieir roles as Pumbaa and Timon, respectively, in The Lion King, The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, and The Lion King 1½. Both actors were featured early in the television show, but Lane was soon replaced by Quinton Flynn and finally Kevin Schon.
There are possibly 86 22-minute episodes (or more) in all, most consisting of two or three shorter segments.
However the final 1998-1999 series saw the gags were becoming more miss than hit. Nearly all of the gags saw Timon more on the receiving end of the gags than usual. Also there was a change in writers and a new director meant that the show was more aimed towards kids rather than the whole family. As a result of this ratings declined and the show was axed by Disney in 1999.
Reruns of Timon and Pumbaa used to air every weekend at 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM and every weekday morning at 6:00 AM on Toon Disney in the United States. The show was also aired on The Disney Channel in the late-1990s, until the preteen lineup took over. It came back very late this year to the Disney Channel afternoon lineup, along with Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. It is one of the few Disney animated series from the 90s that is still on Toon Disney after November 2004.
In the UK, the show currently airs on Disney Cinemagic.

There are also many supporting characters in the series:
- The Vulture Police are the policemen of the jungle who speak in the style of Joe Friday; they appeared in The Law Of The Jungle, Yosemite Remmedy, I Don't Bolivia, Shopping Mauled and Alcatraz-mataz.
- Quint is a human that stars with names like Claim Jumper Quint and Criminal Quint. He is always the "fastest, strongest, and bravest" something-or-other. There may actually be more than one Quint, or perhaps a whole family of Quints, as in one episode set in Spain, two Quints were seen together.
- Fred is an old friend of Timon's; he appeared in Tanzania Zany, Mind Over Matterhorn, Mombasa-In-Law and Once Upon A Timon. He is something of a practical joker.
- Shenzi, Banzai and Ed are the hyenas from The Lion King starring in their separate skits called "The Laughing Hyenas".
- Boss Beaver uses the opposite of "Hakuna Matata", meaning no worries, he uses "Makuta Hamaka" meaning work real hard. He appears in Amusement Bark, Oregon Astray and Maine-Iacs. His name, Boss Beaver comes from the fact that he is their boss and he is also a beaver.
- Speedy The Snail is the only snail that Timon and Pumbaa will never eat; he appears in French Fried, Ocean Commotion and The Man From J.U.N.G.L.E. He is modelled after Bing Crosby.
- Rafiki is the mandrill from The Lion King. He stars in his order of separate skits called Rafiki Fables, He also starred in the new director episodes Timoncchio, Kahuna Potato, Truth Be Told and Special Deffects.
- The Cheetahs are the smartest animals in this entire series. They starred in The Laughing Hyenas: Cooked Goose, Gabon with the wind and Boary Gloary Days.
- Bear tries to hurt Timon and Pumbaa sometimes. He appears in Jailhouse Shock, Ready, Aim, Fire, Stay Away From My Honey, Dapper Duck Burgers, Don't Wake The Neighbear, It Runs Good, Slalom Problem, Kahuna Potato, and Ice Escapades.
- Irwin the Penguin is the most trouble making penguin anywhere in the world. He Starred In Frantic Atlantic and Shopping Mauled.
- The Mad Scientist (Dr. Caliostro) is the most experimental scientist in this entire universe. He starred in Monster Massachusetts.
- Princess Tatiana is the princess of Timon's old meerkat colony who stole his heart and almost married him. The only episode she starred in is Once Upon A Timon, a 30 minute episode.
- Simba makes a few appearances in the series. He appears in Congo On Like This, Shake Your Djibouti and Rome Alone. He has a cameo appearance in Zazu's Off-by-One Day.
- Zazu is an uptight Hornbill who is Simba's majordomo in the show. He stars in Zazu's Off Day Off and Zazu's Off-by-One Day, an episode when he has count all the animals and forgets himself.
- Toucan Dan is a thieving toucan who never tells the truth, despite being caught red handed. He often commits crimes and has Timon and Pumbaa take the blame for it.

As is common in cartoons, almost every episode title is a parody of a famous movie, song, or TV show. Geographic place names form the basis of the puns, for example To Kilimanjaro Bird is a combination of the novel To Kill a Mockingbird and the name of the mountain Kilimanjaro.
