Timothy Kealii'okaaina Awa Chang (born October 9, 1981 in Waipahu, Hawaii) is an American football quarterback famous for leading the Warriors of University of Hawai'i. He is currently a free agent. He was signed by the Arizona Cardinals of the NFL in 2005, but was cut in training camp. That year, Chang also played in the preseason for the Detroit Lions but did not make the final roster. Chang was assigned to the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe for the 2005 season. He was in training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2006, but was cut before the start of the regular season.
[edit] Collegiate Records and Recognition
He currently holds the NCAA Division I-A all-time passing yards record with 17,072, surpassing Ty Detmer of BYU in 2004. He also holds records for total offensive yards (17,183), most offensive plays (2,610), most interceptions (77) and is second to Detmer's 121 touchdown passes (117).
Chang was MVP of the 2003 Hawaii Bowl and Co-MVP with Chad Owens of the 2004 Hawaii Bowl in victories over Houston and UAB, respectively.
[edit] Cultural Icon
If he were to play in the NFL, he would be the league's first ever quarterback of Chinese descent (he is of Hawaiian, Chinese, Japanese, Puerto Rican, English, Irish and Spanish ancestry). He says his family is his greatest inspiration.
