Tim Dog |
Tim Dog (real name Timothy Blair, born January 1, 1967) is an American rapper from the Bronx, New York who rose to prominence during the early '90s with his debut LP Penicillin on Wax and the hit song Fuck Compton. Tim had already appeared on songs with the Ultramagnetic MCs and went on to form a duo, Ultra, with member Kool Keith.
"Fuck Compton" was a huge underground hit and caused ripwaves in the hip hop scene at the time. It also enraged many rappers hailing from Compton and the Los Angeles area.Tim followed up with his second album Do or Die; it wasn't as acclaimed as Penicillin on Wax, although it did feature the legendary KRS-One. Another controversial track that Tim released was the Snoop Dogg diss "Bitch With A Perm" in which Tim let Snoop know how he felt about other rappers using the title "dog" in their names. Since then Tim toured with Kool Keith and recorded many other tracks the most recent being his August 2005 collaboration with Percee P, "NY to the UK".

[edit] Compton Rappers And The West Coast Rap Scene
In the early 1990's when seminal rap group N.W.A and several other West Coast rappers were becoming popular Tim found it hard to get a record deal.Feeling frustrared and that West Coast rappers were whack and taking over Tim recorded the underground track "Fuck Compton" off his debut album Penicilin On Wax.The track as well as several others saw Tim ridicule many Compton rappers such as Eazy-E, DJ Quik,Ice-T, Ice Cube, MC Ren, Dr. Dre and Michel'le in the tracks "Step To Me",the skits "DJ Quik Beat Down" and "Michel'le Conversation" and others. The lyrical insults such as those of "Fuck Compton" sparked a ripwave in the hip hop scene at the time. Although the main targets of his insults N.W.A never responded due to their break up, Several other Compton rap units did.
- Comptons Most Wanted dissed him on "Whos Fucking Who"
- Tweedy Bird Loc dissed him on the direct diss "Fuck The South Bronx"
- DJ Quik responded with Way 2 Fonky and The Last Word
- Dr. Dre responded with the skit The $20 Sack Pyramid and the intro of the track Puffin On Blunts And Dranken Tanquery
However the West Coasts main answer would not come from a Compton rapper but from Dr. Dre's new protege Long Beach rapper Snoop Doggy Dogg on the second verse of the track Fuck Wit Dre Day.The track is considered by some to have ended Tim commercial career.Tim responded to the track with Dog Baby and Bitch With A Perm which are both parodies of Dre Day and Snoop's hit Gin & Juice.
[edit] Critical acclaim
Progressive hip-hop producer Blockhead proclaimed on ArtistDirect that Tim Dog's "The Dog's Gonna Getcha" (off Penicillin On Wax) was "quite possibly the hardest song ever made." Nas also shouts out Tim Dog on his track "Hip Hop Is Dead".Also Detroit rapper Eminem gave a shout out to him on the track Ricky Ticky Toc.
