[edit] Byzantine Empire
- c. 1000: Roma recorded in the Byzantine Empire. - i'm very curious to know what are the earliest documents refering to the Tsigani/Gypsy/Gitanes/Rom/Sinti people, using the term Roma... what document, what author, what year ? Criztu 00:55, 4 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Someone should edit this because I have not seen claims of it in anything that I've read. Everything I've seen would place the ancestors of the Romany people either in India or Persia in the year 1000. I'm not quite sure what it should be changed to, the fact is that there is still dispute over who the Romany people descend from. Personally I support the Zott theory, but as some scholars disagree with that I don't want to include it as if it were fact.
[edit] Early Roma
I've heard references to Sindhi in 1100 in the regions east of India. Also, there is a 1050 reference to astingani in Constantinople. Check out Kenrick's book "Gypsies: from the Ganges to the Thames", Gilsenbach's "Weltchrnik der Zigeuner" and Soulis' "Gypsies in the Byzantine Empire and the Balkans in the late Middle Ages" for more info.

[edit] A gap
I see a monstrous gap between Porajmos and year 2006. I suggest to write sth about first Gypsies World Congress near London in 1971 and the start of Decade of Roma Inclusion (2005-2015)

[edit] Merger
I am proposing that this article and the History of the Roma people be combined. Comments? Wachholder0 14:54, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, it could fit entirely into the article. Just copy+paste it under Timeline of Roma history section name. Lajbi Holla @ meWho's the boss? 15:07, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Copyvio
Unfortunately, I had to tag History of the Roma people/Timeline for copyright violation. The complete list is, however, still available in the articles' history: [1] and on these websites: [2][3] Cpt. Morgan (Reinoutr) 10:27, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- I think it is a rash speculation. This list is not the same as the one in the archive or neither in the external links. They are much longer and don't include the last two date entries (that were unfortunately written by me). Lajbi Holla @ meWho's the boss? 10:42, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- I think you are confused. This message was just a notification that I had put up History of the Roma people/Timeline for a copyvio, NOT Timeline of Roma history (which is indeed a different list, but also a different article). I just put it here, because it is a related page, the information of which might be usefull to expand this article. Cpt. Morgan (Reinoutr) 15:12, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- Ok. My bad. Lajbi Holla @ meWho's the boss? 15:17, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
