Tilford

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tilford is a small village about four miles South of Farnham in Surrey, England.

The north and south branches of the River Wey meet here, although the river is only navigable from Godalming, 7.3 miles downstream.

The village has a triangular green used for cricket (reputed to be the second oldest pitch in the country) in the summer, on which sits the Barley Mow pub.

The film Gladiator was filmed in Bourne Woods nearby.

In the mid eighteenth century the village was owned by Elizabeth Abney, daughter of Lady Mary Abney; and her detailed local survey map has survived to this day in the British Library.
