Tiga Island

Tiga Island (also known as Tokanod) is one of the Loyalty Islands, in the archipelago of New Caledonia, an overseas territory of France in the Pacific Ocean. The island is part of the commune (municipality) of Lifou, in the Islands Province of New Caledonia.
Tiga island lies 35 km (22 miles) from Lifou Island and 24.5 km (15 miles) from Maré Island. It is only 6 km (3.7 miles) long and 2 km (1.2 miles) wide, with the highest elevation at 76 m (249 ft) above sea-level. Its land area is approximately 10 km² (4 sq. miles).
At the 1996 census there were 169 people living on Tiga Island, meaning a density of approximately 17 person per km².
