Tieton, Washington

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tieton is a town in Yakima County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,154 at the 2000 census.

Richard Kroger is the founding father of Tieton though it was not an easy accomplishment.

Tieton was formed through a result of a physical challenge tournament with the local leading figures. Richard Kroger, Terry Casey, Mark Kranz, Frank Lyczewski, Tim Conrad, Lynn Harris, and Gail Chapman all served the initial group that would lead to the creation of Tieton.

In a historic arm-wrestling match, Richard Kroger was able to defeat the heavily favored, and now mythical figure, Terry Casey. (While the man Terry Casey has never been confirmed he has since become a local legend. Natives have tried to capture some sort evidence for his existence but to this day he is ever elusive.)

Since that day Richard Kroger, mythical Terry Casey, Mark Kranz, Frank Lyczewski, Tim Conrad, Lynn Harris, and Gail Chapman have gone to forge greatness within the valley. The name "Tieton" was chosen by Richard Kroger to represent the strong bond by all original members. "Tie - et - on" meaning to "tie the eternal bond of friendship." This tradition is carried on throughout their children.

Tieton was officially incorporated on June 5, 1942.
