Tibás is the thirteenth county of the province of San José, Costa Rica and the first capital. It was formerly known as San Juan del Murciélago. Its population is estimated at 73,000 people. Located north of San José's central area, Tibás includes the districts of San Juan, Llorente, León XIII (which has a reputation as a high crime area), and Colima. Tibás includes both industrial and residential neighborhoods and is home of the most popular soccer team in Costa Rica, Deportivo Saprissa. The current mayor is Jorge Salas Bonilla from the center-leftist Citizen Action Party (one of the biggest Costa Rican parties).
