Thurman is a city in Fremont County, Iowa, United States. The population was 236 at the 2000 census.

Thurman is located at 40°49′13″N, 95°45′4″W (40.820391, -95.751124)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.5 km² (0.6 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 236 people, 81 households, and 60 families residing in the city. The population density was 162.7/km² (424.1/mi²). There were 90 housing units at an average density of 62.1/km² (161.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.15% White, 0.42% Native American, 0.42% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.69% of the population.

There were 81 households out of which 39.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.0% were married couples living together, 8.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.9% were non-families. 18.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.91 and the average family size was 3.38.

In the city the population was spread out with 33.5% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 93.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.3 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $34,583, and the median income for a family was $38,438. Males had a median income of $26,667 versus $26,250 for females. The per capita income for the city was $13,851. About 7.0% of families and 16.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.8% of those under the age of eighteen and 52.6% of those sixty five or over.
