Throwdown! with Bobby Flay

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Throwdown! With Bobby Flay is a show where famous chef Bobby Flay challenges cooks who are particularly good at one aspect of cooking. At the beginning of each show, Flay finds out what he’s up against whether it is the best chili maker or the best wedding cake designer. The chefs get a surprise call from Food Network, and they hold a “party” which is to be part of their Food Network profile. Little do they know that Flay will show up, challenging them to a Throwdown.

Meanwhile, in the Test Kitchen, Flay and two sous chef try to do their best to make their winning recipe for that particular field of cooking. Then, they drive down to the party of who they will be challenging. Once they get there, the reactions of the cooks they are challenging are usually ones of surprise. From this point, each works on their own recipe, and then gets it judged by a notable veteran in that field (a blind taste test). At the end, it is announced whose concoction was superior. [1]

[edit] Criticism

Many critics have said that what Flay is doing is unfair among the competitors. The competitor does not usually have all the materials right there for the Throwdown, and Flay gets the element of surprise. Flay also uses costly power tools and material that the competitor does not have. However in spite of this advantage, Bobby Flay has lost every challenge he has made. His best performance was in the Ice Cream Throwdown where he achieved a tie. [2]
