Thrishana Pothupitiya

Thrishana Pothupitiya is the 17 year old author of an essay describing her experiences during the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. The piece was originally published in The Daily News in Pothupitiya's native Sri Lanka.
The essay was widely disseminated the month after the tragedy, eventually being read by thousands of people around the world including British heir to the throne, Prince Charles and former US President Bill Clinton. Her work, entitled Power of Humanity has been described as a "powerful piece of writing" capturing the mood of Sri Lanka. The British Red Cross are among those who are using Thrishana Pothupitiya's essay as an educational resource.
