  2. The Three Kingdoms of Korea, Goguryeo, Baekje, and Silla.
  3. The kingdoms of England, Scotland and Ireland in the days before the United Kingdom. For instance, it is found in the works of Jonathan Swift, and in the modern term Wars of the Three Kingdoms, the series of conflicts in Britain and Ireland, 1639-51, which include the conflict called the "English Civil War".
  4. The three kingdoms of the Ryūkyū Islands: Hokuzan, Chūzan, and Nanzan, whose history is known collectively as the Sanzan period (三山, sanzan, Three Mountains)
  5. The animal, vegetable, and mineral kingdoms in Bahya ibn Paquda's classic work, Chovot ha-Levavot ('Duties of the Heart').
