Thornton Chase

Thornton Chase (February 22, 1847September 30, 1912) was the first American convert to the Baha'i Faith.

Thornton Chase was born to Sarah Thornton Chase and Jotham Chase in Springfield, Massachusetts; he was raised a Baptist. At the age of sixteen, he applied to Brown University and was accepted, he however, postponed going to college to participate in the American Civil War.
