Thomas Weston, 4th Earl of Portland
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Thomas Weston, 4th Earl of Portland, was born about 1609 at Neyland in Essex, England, a younger son of Richard Weston, 1st Earl of Portland, by his second wife Frances Walgrave.
His elder brother Jerome Weston, 2nd Earl of Portland, succeeded their father in 1634, and passed the title to his own son Charles Weston, 3rd Earl of Portland, in 1662. However, this young man failed to marry and produce a direct heir of his own prior to his death in 1665, whereupon Thomas succeeded as Earl of Portland.
His lordship married Anne Butler, widow of the Earl of Newport, but they had no children. He died in 1688, when his estates passed to his nieces (the daughters of the 2nd Earl of Portland). But, his title was then considered to be extinct.
