Rear Admiral Thomas T. Matteson was appointed Superintendent of the United States Merchant Marine Academy on July 1, 1993.

Rear Admiral Thomas T. Matteson retired from the United States Coast Guard effective July 1, 1993. On that same date he assumed the position of Superintendent of the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) in Kings Point, New York. Immediately prior to retirement from active service, RADM Matteson had served as Superintendent of the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut.
