Thomas Pink
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Thomas Pink is a retail clothing business which started in London in 1984. The concept was created by two Irish entrepreneurs, the Mullen brothers. They named the company after a tailor who was based in London, in the 19th Century. In 2001, the Mullen brothers sold their majority share to LVMH.
Its first shop was in the borough of Chelsea, London. In 1989, it finally acquired a store in the much sought after Jermyn Street (where other shirt makers are based). It now has shops all over the world, and is particularly popular in the United States. It specialises in formal shirts and ties. However, it has branched out into other forms of clothing, such as casual wear, blazers and accessories.
Unfortunately, the cost of producing shirts has forced the business to move its production from Northern Ireland (The Shirtmaker’s Guild) to a factory in Eastern Europe. This has ended the long history of shirt makers producing their shirts within the British Isles.
