Thomas Begley

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thomas Begley was a 23 years old IRA Volunteer from the Ardoyne in Belfast. Begley was killed by his own bomb in the Shankill Road bombing of 1993, which killed nine other people. Forensic evidence pointed to Begley holding the five pound bomb above the refrigerated serving counter at the fish shop when it exploded. The other IRA man in the shop Sean Kelly was convicted of murder for the killings.

[edit] Funeral

The funeral of Begley caused some controversy when the Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams was heavily criticised for carrying Begley's coffin.
